Colorstrology: What you don’t know, can’t entertain you.
Any creative worth his salt knows about the color experts at Pantone. Pantone began making its splash in the color world when it started selling color matching guides to designers in the early 60′s. Since then, Pantone has grown into the definitive source on color, that’s what their marketing materials say anyway, but I don’t think their claim is too much of a stretch. When it comes to color, (more…)
File this one under, “Can’t Leave Well Enough Alone!”

I know, I know. With all the projects we have going on at Barton’s Way Media, what am I doing re-taking pictures of my own bicycle? Ummmm errr, testing out the new lighting kit?
Jokes aside, I’ve always had trouble leaving well enough alone, and I just had to see what the shot would look like with the bike further away from the background. While I was at it, I figured I would snap a couple of very shallow depth of field close ups. Of course the next logical step is to create a collage of the shots in order to update the blog.
That’s all I got for now. It’s back to the old salt mine for me. -Jack
Beautifully Filmed Skateboard Movie
I got my visual imaging and story telling start in what was called the “extreme” or “action” sports biz. I never liked those handles, but that’s what folks called it. Anyway, I made a lot of friends and contacts in the action sports world, so I check in on that world from time to time. This piece is an example of why I bother. It’s both amazing and beautiful, not a bad combo for any subject. Even if you aren’t into skating, you will appreciate the artistry of the folks who produced the edit and the athleticism of the young men doing the tricks. Go ahead and push the play button, you won’t be disappointed. -Jack
A Sneak Peek at our 1st Video Update & our DIY Tele-Prompter

Is it really necessary to spend big bucks on your equipment in order to get great images? The simple answer is no. But it’s a little closer to the the truth to say, “it can’t hurt.” Consider the photo above illustrating the gear I’ll be using to produce our 1st ever video update. If we began totaling up the cost of all the equipment used to capture this photo, (more…)
Latest DXG mini HD Camera

The same day that I purchased the DXG-569v, see previous posts here and here, I learned that the manufacturer had recently phased that model out in favor of a new model the 581v. Given the fact that we are talking about a camera that retails for a hundred bucks and not several thousand, I wasn’t upset that I bought the old stuff when the new stuff was already available. (Ok, I was just a little upset) Anyway, the moment that I got the news, I immediately went online and ordered a 581v from Beach Audio.
The 581v is actually quite a step up in performance and features. First of all it shoots 1920-1080 30fps, (more…)
DXG-569V HD: “Let the fun begin.” I couldn’t agree more.

Folks, this little piece of sound and visual high tech is un-freaking-believable! Sorry about the language, but sometimes its just warranted. Available at Radio Shack for $130 and worth every penny. The manufacturer’s (DXG) tag line for this camera is “Let the Fun Begin!” I couldn’t agree more. This thing is FUN!
I not going to do a review, you can find that here. Tech specs are not the point with this camera. The beauty of this (more…)
Ever wonder if there was a “YourTube”? There is….
Nice picture huh? It’s a Grab selection or a “screen shot” if you will. I got this “just right” moment for the screen capture the hard way. Sure, I could have paused the movie and taken my time to set up the grab so on and so forth. But, I just let the movie roll and took the grab when I thought the timing was right. That’s why the lower left control is in the play mode. (Yes, I realize the control looks like the pause symbol. (more…)
Adapter Ring for 5d2 Video Control

This is a Canon (camera body) to Nikon (lens) adapter ring that I bought on ebay for $6. It was shipped from China a couple of weeks ago, and I got it this morning. I have sequestered myself in order to finish writing the copy for the new Barton’s Way Media .com website. Look for it to go live by the end of the month. But, I had to take a break and check out this inexpensive, but very powerful little ring. Here’s why it is so important (more…)
