Livestrong Group Photo Shoot at Barton’s Way

I never thought I would see this type of interest in a test post. I posted the image above a couple of days ago simply to see what the post processing looked like in various browsers. I ending up leaving it online because I’ve been completely preoccupied with the pixelwiremedia site development.
I threw a link to this blog on Margaret’s Facebook wall about the same time I posted the photo because I happened to see some folks talking up the photo shoot there. The result was a couple of hundred visits in less than 24 hours. All for a post that contained nothing but a single test image, which means that (more…)
Final Logo for New Brand.

Brief update here about a couple of slight cosmetic changes to the new logo just to keep the ball rolling. We changed the blue to a slightly more “serious” tone. The green line separating the wordmark from the tagline was changed to gray because there simply weren’t enough pixels there to differentiate it from the yellow in the word wire. The new blue doesn’t pop off the black background like the old blue, but the logo wasn’t made to go on top of black. It’s made for white, or more precisely a very light shade of gray, see for yourself below. That is the color I am using for the new website background.
Speaking of black backgrounds, I used one today for (more…)
Good People, Cancer, & Livestrong

I have been blessed to work with some really great folks over the years, both in my personal and professional lives. I don’t credit myself with any special talent for attracting good people, I just seem to stumble upon them. I’m really grateful for that. People who know me have probably heard me jokingly say, “I’m the luckiest person I know”. I say it more from a sense of gratitude than boasting. It’s true though, I have been really lucky when it comes to people.
Two great people who I stumbled upon about 5 years ago are Chris and Margaret Kadlick. They aren’t typically ones for the spotlight, so my going on about them might make them a little uncomfortable. I’m gonna do it anyway. (more…)
File this one under, “Can’t Leave Well Enough Alone!”

I know, I know. With all the projects we have going on at Barton’s Way Media, what am I doing re-taking pictures of my own bicycle? Ummmm errr, testing out the new lighting kit?
Jokes aside, I’ve always had trouble leaving well enough alone, and I just had to see what the shot would look like with the bike further away from the background. While I was at it, I figured I would snap a couple of very shallow depth of field close ups. Of course the next logical step is to create a collage of the shots in order to update the blog.
That’s all I got for now. It’s back to the old salt mine for me. -Jack
Continuous Cool Fluorescent Photo Lighting, “So easy, it’s Like Cheating”

Photographers have been lighting their subjects with strobes lights (flash) for a long time. Strobe done well produces truly gorgeous images, but it ain’t easy. The light from a strobe lasts a fraction of a second, so predicting the end result is tough for even the experienced photog. Before the advent of digital cameras, which allow you to see the results right away, a lot of guess work was done while shooting with strobes. I’m sure I’m not the only one who can remember a few nervous rides to the lab to see how the film turned out. Having to imagine the final result is not a problem with continuous lighting because what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WISYWIG). Continuous lights also mean you don’t have to (more…)
Latest DXG mini HD Camera

The same day that I purchased the DXG-569v, see previous posts here and here, I learned that the manufacturer had recently phased that model out in favor of a new model the 581v. Given the fact that we are talking about a camera that retails for a hundred bucks and not several thousand, I wasn’t upset that I bought the old stuff when the new stuff was already available. (Ok, I was just a little upset) Anyway, the moment that I got the news, I immediately went online and ordered a 581v from Beach Audio.
The 581v is actually quite a step up in performance and features. First of all it shoots 1920-1080 30fps, (more…)
Barton’s Way Media would like to thank everyone involved with the Personal Journalism Wedding Site Shoot.

We first introduced you to Carrie and Louis in an “Unforgettable” HD cinema wedding trailer that was posted to our HD Vimeo channel a few days ago. It has been a popular clip, getting 314 views in 6 days. Not too shabby considering we haven’t done anything to create an audience for it outside of submitting it to a few groups on the initial posting. But I digress.
The thing that I want you to know about Carrie and Louis is how generous they were to give up an entire Saturday to model for (more…)
Upcoming New Wedding Trailer for Vimeo Channel You “Won’t Forget” in 2 hours.

You’re looking at a wonderful couple, Carrie & Louis, who recently married in CT. We filmed and photographed their big day with our good friend and one of the best wedding photogs in the biz, Mr. Joe Pecoraro. The images looked so good, we thought we’d whip together a little trailer just to show off a little bit. The shot above spoils the ending, but I can’t get a screen shot of the edit at the moment because, well… it’s being edited. This image above is a still image of their first kiss as a married couple. I was at the back of the room, so I used a Canon 1DIII with a 300 2.8 lens. Camera settings: RAW, Aperture Priority, ISO 3200, f 3.2, 1/30 sec. I used Adobe Lightroom to do the post-processing. I should post up the before picture so you can see what a difference a little processing can do. -Jack
