File this one under, “Can’t Leave Well Enough Alone!”

I know, I know. With all the projects we have going on at Barton’s Way Media, what am I doing re-taking pictures of my own bicycle? Ummmm errr, testing out the new lighting kit?
Jokes aside, I’ve always had trouble leaving well enough alone, and I just had to see what the shot would look like with the bike further away from the background. While I was at it, I figured I would snap a couple of very shallow depth of field close ups. Of course the next logical step is to create a collage of the shots in order to update the blog.
That’s all I got for now. It’s back to the old salt mine for me. -Jack

i am checking out cool flo lighting and came across this post. i know it is an older post, so curious what kit you had then and if you still like it or are using something different? not sure if i want to move to true studio strobes or cool flo lighting. currently i am using my sb800s and a few old sb80s…
Hey Kim, Thanks for checking out the post. Yeah, it’s an older post from a test blog that I did awhile back. My blog is now http://pixelwiremedia.com/blog/. I reposted the Cool Flo post there a short time ago.
I am using strobes for a job today, because it requires more “pop” than provided by the cool flo’s. But, I’d like to use the cool flo’s so we can shoot video on the same set. It’s a bit of a trade off. The point is that sometimes you need the strobes. If I was just starting out with lighting, I’d invest in the florescents, and rent the strobes when I needed them.
The future is moving pictures, and strobes ain’t gonna get it done in that regard.
I’ve had good luck with the company for florescent lighting. If you call them, please tell Sonja that I said hey. http://www.eoslightingllc.com/cm/
You can do an awful lot with the SB800′s. One of my assistants uses speedlights with light accessories like beauty dishes and small softboxes with amazing results. Here is his source for that http://www.interfitphotographic.com/.
Since you already have a small strobes, the SB800′s, I’d recommend florescents, and renting strobes when you absolutely need more watts.
I hope that’s helpful. -Jack
